The Lion Of Marketing Phrases!

Featured

The following four words are some of the most powerful words in marketing that you could ever use: “It’s not your fault”. Read that again, “It’s not your fault”. There are few marketing statements more powerful than this. These words have the ability to command attention, open minds and reveal emotions.

Have you ever stopped to think about your habits, ideas, perspectives and feelings? Many of our daily actions and thoughts are not present by our own choice. They are the result of conditioning that we have experienced throughout our lives. Let me give you an example. As children many of us were told to ”just be happy with what you have”. What does this communicate? If you grew up always being taught to “just be happy with what you have”, would you expect that child to strive for great success in business as an adult or just be happy they have a job. I have a friend who was always forced to “finish his plate” at every meal. If he grew up with a habit of consistently eating everything on his plate, regardless if he was hungry or not, would it be really be his complete fault if he was overweight as an adult? What about children that grow up with a daily routine of watching television all day vs. children who actively participate in sports throughout their childhood? Are the habits they grow up with their fault? Are people with bad habits completely guilty of “not taking responsibility” for their actions? What about a failed and desperate network marketer who has been struggling for years? Is their failure really their fault?

A very powerful conversation takes place when you can say “Mike, I understand why you feel the way you do about network marketing and I don’t blame you, but I want you to know something… it’s not your fault”. Think about this. Who has really lead Mike? Has he ever surrounded himself with successful people? Does Mike even understand networking? Marketing? How to build relationships? Does he understand the concept of leverage or the importance of mindset? Or was he just handed a starter kit and told to “grow a business”. Is his failure really his fault? I don’t care how determined you are, if you’re headed in the wrong direction you will only reach your dead end destination quicker than others.

Please note that I am not suggesting lying or being insincere. Maintaining your integrity is a critical factor in business. What I am suggesting is that you learn this concept and approach people with a sincere desire to understand where they are. This will give you a new perspective of your prospects that you may have never given thought to before. If you can really understand this concept it will change your marketing perspective forever.

Inspiration In A Box… My Gift To You!

Every person I have ever met that has been successful in business has experienced moments of frustration, weakness, mental fatigue, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, and has just plain felt like giving up. The actions that we take during these moments are the defining factors that ultimately shape our future and really separate the “Lions from the Lambs”. Every successful network marketer has also had moments of clarity where everything seems to come together, which is often sparked by insightful quote or phrase. Today I want to share some of the most insightful quotes that have stuck with me and help me through these times.

1. “Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is.” – Vince Lombardi

2. “You don’t need a Plan B because it just distracts from Plan A” – Will Smith

3. “You know, I had to succeed, because I finally ran out of things that didn’t work” – Thomas Edison (while being interviewed by Napoleon Hill)

4. “Knowing and not doing is not really knowing, learning and not changing is not really learning” – Stephen Covey

5. “Does this business work (Network Marketing)? Absolutely; When I first started did people say I wouldn’t make it? Absolutely; Did some of my friends and family turn their backs on me? Absolutely; Are they still broke? Absolutely!” – C. Anthony Harris, 5Linx Top Money Earner

6. “If you don’t run your own life, someone else will” – John Atkinson

7. “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase” – Martin Luther King Jr.

8. “Leadership: The art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it” – Dwight D. Eisenhower

9. “Play for more than you can afford to lose and you will learn the game” – Winston Churchill

10. “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right” – Henry Ford

Network Marketing Sucks… I Don’t Think So!

Featured

“Article Marketing sucks, Blogging sucks, Facebook really sucks, YouTube sucks, PPC is expensive and it sucks. Network Marketing sucks!” These are the famous words spoken by the struggling Network Marketer and most of us have fallen victim to actually believing this… even if it was just for a moment. The truth is you suck.

I heard one of my mastermind partners give an awesome quote yesterday. He said “When you are first starting out as an internet marketer, you have to be willing to suck”. As funny as that may sound, it is the honest truth and there is no way around it. Your first webinar will be a total circus, you first phone call with a prospect will be a stuttering mess, your first “yes” from a lead will be a complete lie and you first sign up (sponsor into your primary business) will probably quit within the first 3 weeks and never make a single sale. Things aren’t really going to work out the way it was explained on presentation night! However, you have to be willing to suck at marketing, prospecting and lead generation before you can develop your skills. Most people are not willing to suck. They are not willing to face their fear of failure.

I still remember the first time someone said “yes” to join my business. I was in complete shock! I actually asked them “are you sure” like 3 times! I honestly can’t believe that I didn’t talk myself out of that sale. Needless to say, they never made a dime. The first time I ever called a lead, I spoke for 7 minutes straight! The only question I really asked was “How are you doing today?” I have no idea why they didn’t just hang up on me. It is funny reflecting on these stories now but it was a tough pill to swallow when it was happening. These are the rights of passage to success my friend. This is what will groom your character. This is what will shape your mind, build your tenacity and improve your posture. There is not a single successful marketer online or offline that has not experienced this path.

I spoke with a potential business partner yesterday and I gave him this advice: “do not use your income to measure your success. Success is measured in progress, not dollars”. Your income is a byproduct of your value and self development. Do not make the mistake of thinking that if you’re not making money, you’re not making progress. So, don’t worry about being a pro, just focus on making progress. The only way to fail in this business is by giving up, and you’re not a quitter! You are an entrepreneur!

Who, What and How… It’s Your Choice.

Every Entrepreneur, Network Marketing, Direct Sales Professional or business minded individual needs a re-energizer from time to time.

Although my entrepreneurial spirit cannot be tamed or put to sleep, it occasionally takes a beating that requires a few words of encouragement to get back up and fight! I came across this video a few months ago on YouTube. This is actually a small part of the entire interview but it is one of the few videos that has stuck with me. I consistently visit YouTube every few weeks to watch this clip when I need a quick pick me up.

I hope you all enjoy!

Dream Stealers Kick Me In The Ribs!!!

Featured

If you have read my bio, you already know that I live in Las Vegas. One of the best things about living in Las Vegas is that you have some of the finest restaurants and entertainment in the world at the tip of your fingers. Last week we went out to lunch  to a highly recommended BBQ Restaurant. Now, I really only know one person who has visited this restaurant and said it was “okay” but I have heard tons of people rave about it. My neighbors, friends and acquaintances have never eaten there but they all recommended the place because of all the great things they have heard. The expectation for this restaurant was set so high that I could hardly wait to sink my teeth into some championship BBQ ribs!

So, about noon we entered the restaurant, sat at our booth and order our meals. When my order arrived I was very impressed with the presentation of the meal. I folded my napkin, picked up my ribs and anxiously sunk my teeth in! I chewed, I swallowed, and I was utterly disappointed. I felt like a first time, newly inspired network marketer, one month after enrolling at a hotel meeting and realizing that sponsoring 3 people in my business didn’t really add up to the financial freedom I was promised. Then I asked myself, how could anyone consider this place the King of Ribs? Then I realized the truth. I had taken advice from people who had no idea of what they were talking about. They came up with their own ideas and opinions without any real knowledge or experience. Their entire opinion was based on other people’s opinions and what they have heard… sound familiar?

Network Marketing involves more than ordering from a menu but there are TONS of people out there giving recommendations and advice on subjects that they do not understand. In our business many of these people are called Dream Stealers. They have no idea of what it takes to actually grow a network marketing business but they offer their advice ALL THE TIME … and people actually take it! “You don’t have what it takes”, “I already tried that, it doesn’t work”, “Oh, that’s a pyramid scheme”, “You’ve been in your business for 4 months and you haven’t made any money, I told you it wouldn’t work”, “You’re just money hungry”, “Stop wasting time on something that doesn’t work”, “Stop dreaming, be realistic”. I love this last one, “be realistic”. Will Smith stated one of my favorite quotes, “Being realistic is a great way to limit your potential. Was it realistic to think that a man could walk on the moon? I’m glad someone wasn’t being realistic!” The truth is many of them are afraid that if you succeed they will be left behind to feel even more helpless.

Remember, if you buy someone’s advice… you buy their lifestyle! Don’t let Dream Stealers stop you from having what they are not willing to work for. So, the next time you take someone’s advice, look at who and what they are because if you listen to them, that is what you become. You must surround yourself with the like minded people. Pee Wee Herman Storms Network Marketing!

Featured

Pee Wee Herman could quite possibly be the second most annoying character on the planet! So, who’s the first most annoying character you ask? IT MIGHT BE YOU! The aspiring Network Marketer. Now, unless you have been living under a rock or just started internet marketing yesterday, you should be familiar with the concept of Attraction Marketing.I could see the bobble heads swaying away “yes, yes, everyone knows about attraction marketing”. So, here is the million dollar question, “Have you heard of Pee Wee Herman Marketing?” Yes, you read it right. Pee Wee Herman Marketing is the most popular form of marketing on the planet! It’s all over Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and even use by people that are face to face network marketing.

I’ll break it down for you. Here is the basic concept behind Pee Wee Marketing. People want to join your business and buy your products, they just don’t know it yet. So there are two rules: 1) Your job is throw your business opportunity and products in their faces so fast and so many times that they have no option but to join or buy; 2) Never ask anyone for their name and if anyone asks you anything personal just respond with a link to your replicated website! That’s it, simple and easy, right?

Sound ridiculous? Then why are 90% of social media marketers doing this? I call this Pee-Wee Herman Marketing because it is completely annoying! My guess is that the majority of these marketers have more desire than knowledge… I’m being optimistic here. So, if you have more desire than knowledge let me share 3 CRITICAL concepts that you MUST understand if you are going to have any success marketing your business online.

1. No One Cares About Your Opportunity. You are not selling a business, a product or even an opportunity because no one cares about these things. You are selling a solution to their problems. Perry Marshall, the legendary Google AdWords Authority, basically sums up this concept with one quote, “Nobody who bought a drill actually wanted a drill. They wanted a hole. Therefore, if you want to sell drills, you should advertise information about making holes – NOT information about drills!” – I hope you understand this.

2. People do not join a business, they join people. Your income will be directly related to the value that you have to offer. Everyone is looking for a leader that can take them home to the promise land of financial freedom. If you expect to have any success in consistently sponsoring people into your business you MUST have something to offer that people value. You might be a great speaker, an excellent closer, great at generating Facebook leads, have a huge Twitter following, a PPC wizard, a great blogger, an inspirational writer or just know more than the person you are speaking with. Any one of more of these factors can help to position you as an authority or leader in the eyes of your prospect. If people see value in working with you… then you are on your way to actually building a business.

3. Treat Your Business Like A Business. If you want to actually make money in network marketing, you have to dedicate real time and effort into building your business. You must be willing to work on growing your business for a minimum of 6 months to 1 year. You have to invest in your knowledge to develop yourself into the leader you need to be. You must invest your time in actually talking to prospects, practicing your marketing techniques, networking with people, placing your advertisements, learning from seasoned marketers, etc… This business WILL take time. I’m sorry to break it to you but there is no real shortcut. Finally, yes, you will have to spend money, your business is a long term investment not get rich quick scheme. Now, thankfully internet marketing allows you to leverage very effective FREE marketing strategies, so most of the money you spend may actually come from your profits but you need to expect to spend money to actually build your business.

Of course this is a very very condensed and over simplified version of these fundamental concepts. Relax! A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Prospects

Featured

Social media has changed Internet marketing forever! Today I want to take a few minutes to talk about profile pictures. Last week I had a quick conversation with one of my downline business partners about Facebook Marketing. She had spent about 2 hours trying to decide what picture to use for her profile image and called me for some advice. Now, first of all, spending 2 hours on a profile pictures is a great way to waste your time and keep you from actually growing your business (but we can talk about busy work later). It is always interesting to me to see how people choose to represent themselves. So I wanted to share 5 quick tips to remember when picking a profile picture.

1. Relax! and be yourself. Look at the picture of our friend on the left. He’s clean, professional and laser focused. The only problem with this picture is that we are marketing a HOME BASED business! I don’t know about you, but when I market from home, my patio or sitting on my couch … I really don’t plan on wearing a suit and tie, as I’m sure most of us would not! So be REAL. Wear what you normally wear. Be clean, wrinkle free, and decent. You want people to know who they are really working with. Don’t dress up, don’t dress down, be you.

2. SMILE :) Smile in your pictures, have fun, enjoy who you are and LOVE WHAT YOU DO. Let’s look back at our friend’s picture again (above, left). If I had to take a guess, I would probably say he’s struggling in network marketing, just missed a few credit card payments and took this picture at 6:30am, right before he left to work. That’s not the guy I really want to lead me to success. No one wants to ride in the car with flat tires, so SMILE … regardless of how many teeth you have!

3.  Use YOUR picture, No Icons. Your picture should be of you. I don’t know how many people really want to work with the “snarling bulldog” guy or with the “Cute baby picture” woman. Show people who you are, this helps to build confidence with your potential business partners. If you use an icon or picture image many people will feel that you are hiding behind your computer. People want to work with and follow people, not cool images.

4. NEVER post your MLM Logo. Using your logo next to or in place of your picture is a great way to come off like a salesperson and drive away tons of potential valuable relationships. If you want to have a job for the rest of your life … do this. For the rest of us who are serious about networking with others re-read tip #3.

5. Keep the picture “up-to-date”. Any picture you use should be within the last few years or should “reasonably” represent you. Don’t use a 1980′s magazine cover shot or you college photo if you are class of 1989. Keep your picture current and honest.

These guidelines are not rocket science, just simple basic rules to follow. Remember: First impressions are everything and in our world, a picture can be worth a thousand prospects!
